To sleep, perchance to dream....fat chance. It's funny...the other night I actually had a dream in which I was only seeing one chapter of the dream...my subconscious had divided up my dream into short segments because it knew I would be awakened in yet another 2 hours!
All the "what to expect" books can't quite prepare you for the sleeping in shifts that awaits once bringing home your little one....the first feeding at bedtime is sweet..filled with bedtime songs, cuddles, kisses...I can't quite say the same for the dizzying 3 :30 am feeding.
Still, my friends who have older babies promise me that things get better...that there is the hope of a 4-5 hour sleep shift in store..here's to hoping..until then I look forward to visiting another chapter in my dreams. Goodnight.

Swaddling
To swaddle or not to swaddle. This is the question and a source of great contention between baby and me. Everyone around me highly recommends swaddling baby during naps and bedtime. The pediatrician tells me it will deeply impact my baby's sleep and keep her from startling herself awake. I have ordered all kinds of swaddles...the swaddle pod, true wombie and miracle blanket to name a few. Everyone seems to agree that swaddles help to recreate the security and warmth of the womb. Everyone seems to agree that swaddles are a positive thing. Everyone except my baby.
She appears to have quite a different perception of the swaddle...mainly as an instrument of torture. My baby resists being placed into her swaddles and magically finds ways to break free. Her nimble fingers find their way back to her face regardless of the snugness of the swaddle. She is my little Houdini. All kidding aside though, I feel like a criminal wrapping my baby up like a burrito against her will. On the other hand, once securely swaddled, baby will drift off to a deep sleep.
So swaddle fans, any advice?

Hello babies and hello new mommies and daddies.
I am a new mommy, about 4 weeks new now. I still can't quite believe I am someone's mom, not sure when that feeling will really start to set in. So, the past four weeks have been a whirlwind of new information and a new lifestyle..one that wraps around the clock. I decided that I will start this blog as a way to keep track of questions, concerns, quarries that fill my mind at all times of the day (especially during those 3:30 am feedings). I hope this can be a resource for other new moms out there as a jumping off point for conversations.
